INTERVIEW WITH DOROTA DUSZYNSKA

INTERVIEW WITH DOROTA DUSZYNSKA!

Dorota Duszyńska is a Polish volleyball player and has been training volleyball for 15 years.

1. Can you tell us something about yourself? What is your name, how old are you and where are you from?

„My name is Dorota, I am 24 years old, and I come from Starogard Gdański, Poland.“

2. When did you become interested in volleyball and when did you start training?

„I became interested in volleyball quite early, when I was in the first grade of primary school. I would always watch my siblings playing volleyball with their friends, and since I am the youngest in my family, I naturally wanted to do what they were doing. So I asked my sister to teach me how to play. At first, it was quite frustrating for me because I would stand by the wall for several hours a day, practicing hundreds of times using both forearm and overhead passes. I started training in a club in the second grade of primary school, when I was around 7 or 8 years old.“

3. How much are you tall and what position do you play?

„I am 182 cm tall, and I play either as an outside hitter or an opposite hitter.“

4. Who are your idols in sports in general and who in volleyball?

„I think I have many idols, and I admire each of them for different reasons. For example, when it comes to character and personality, I really admire Michał Kubiak, the former captain of the Polish national team. When it comes to receiving and defending, I learned a lot by watching videos of Jenia Grebennikov. I would pay attention to how he positioned himself for different balls, how he moved around the court and how he positioned his arms when defending. There are many other players I admire as well, and I have taken something from each of them that I can use in my own game.“

5. In which club did you start training and in which club are you today?

„I started training at SKFiS KaEmKa Starogard Gdański. Since then, I have played for several different clubs, both in Poland and abroad. I also had the opportunity to play half a season in Scotland. Currently, my parent club is GKS Wieżyca 2011 Stężyca, and next season I will represent PTPS Człuchów.“

6.  Can you single out some of the successes you achieved with the club?

„I think my biggest success is winning the silver medal at the Polish Junior Championships in 2020. It was a particularly difficult time because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so this achievement is very special to me. Another important achievement was finishing my youth volleyball career with a bronze medal at the Polish Junior Championships.“

7. What are your plans for the future in terms of volleyball?

„I try not to plan too far ahead because you never know what life will bring. I know that volleyball is something very important to me and something I do not want to give up. For now, I do not have any major plans. I simply want to keep playing, enjoying the sport and seeing where it takes me.“

8. Would you recommend the younger generation of boys and girls to try volleyball?

„Definitely. I think volleyball is a great sport because it teaches you how to work as part of a team. Just like any other sport, it also teaches you what failure means and that there is always a lesson to be learned from every defeat. It gives you friendships that can last for many years. So if any young person is reading this and thinking about starting their own volleyball journey, I would say: it is never too late to start. I believe sport should be something accessible and enjoyable for everyone.“
