INTERVIEW WITH MAJA LAMOVŠEK!
Maja Lamovšek is a Slovenian volleyball player and has been training volleyball for 3 years.
1. Can you tell us something about yourself? What is your name, how old are you and where are you from?
„My name is Maja Lamovšek and I am 16 years old. I’m from Slovenia and live in the capital city Ljubljana.“
2. When did you become interested in volleyball and when did you start training?
„My first interest in volleyball started at school during PE classes. I played with my friend, and we even came to school earlier, at 7:30 in the morning, sneaking into the gym just to practice. I officially joined a club in 9th grade, which I felt was quite late at the time. The summer before that, I trained almost every day on a public court near my house with my dad, just so I could be ready to play for a club.“
3. How much are you tall and what position do you play?
„I am 182 cm tall and I play as an outside hitter or an opposite. Last season I played mainly as an opposite, but this year I am focusing more on improving my receiving and defense, as these are areas I want to perfect to become a more complete player.“
4. Who are your idols in sports in general and who in volleyball?
„My biggest idol from the beginning has been Yuji Nishida from Japan. I love watching volleyball matches on YouTube, and I’ve always been amazed by his athleticism, power, and mindset on the court. I don’t have many other specific sports idols, but I would say my biggest inspiration in life is my mom. She supports me unconditionally, and that means everything to me.“
5. Are you a member of a volleyball club and if so, which club?
„I started my volleyball journey at OD Krim, and I am still part of the same club today. At the moment, I am continuing to develop there while also looking for new challenges and opportunities to gain more experience.“
6. Can you single out some success and tell us more about it?
„One of my proudest achievements in my three years playing has been being selected to join a national Ljubljana team made up of the best players from different clubs for the 4 Cities Tournament. We worked together as a new team and finished in second place, which was a really rewarding experience and a great opportunity to challenge myself at a higher level.“
7. What are your plans for the future in terms of volleyball?
„My dream is to play professional volleyball abroad, especially in Italy or Turkey, where the level is extremely high. Volleyball means a lot to me, and I work every day to push my limits and improve. In the future, I hope to represent the Slovenian national team and compete at the highest international level.“
8. Would you recommend the younger generation of boys and girls to try volleyball?
„Absolutely, I would recommend volleyball to younger and older generations. I actually started playing a bit later than most, and it didn’t hold me back at all. Volleyball is not only a great way to stay active and healthy, but it’s also an amazing way to meet new people and be part of a team. No matter your age, it’s definitely worth trying.“
